Tell about some expactations that you had for this first week of school? Describe some things that actually happened this first week of school? Was anything surprising? What are some things that you expect to happen next week?
My first week here at UWEC was really exciting. I got to know so many people from different countries and the cordinators of the orientation week for International students were so keen to help everybody. I hadn't had really high expactations for this first time and because of that I think it was such a great start for me here in Eau Claire.
I didn't know that American students get so much homework, which was really surprising for me. I had thought that the university system, except the campus life around, would be nearly the same as in Austria, but it isn't. Usually in Austria I take about ten and more classes every semester and here I am taking only five. After my first week of school at UWEC I dropped one of my classes, because didn't have enough time to do all my assignments. The professors in Austria are more reserved and no Austrian professor would tell you that you're allowed to adress him with his first name. The acquaintance with each other is more formal in Austria. I hope that I'll get used to the huge amount of homework and that I am going to improve my English knowledge as well as possible, especially my active vocabulary and my pronuncation.
Concluding I want to state that I really like the manner in which American people act with each other and their way of dealing with foreigners.

Hi!!
ReplyDeleteIs intersting to read about your home country, I hope you could deal with the homewerok. I think in Mexico is very similar we use to have also a lot of homework and projects, but doing them in other language is really hard.
See you
Lilia Sanchez
Hello,
ReplyDeleteDon't warry about amount of homework here Domenica, you have to use to it. I mean it will be more easy to you when you spend couple of months here. I think that in the U.S. education you have to read much more than in the our countries education, but here you have to just say your oppinion about the materials that you red, or you have to understand the main sense.
See you,
Evgeny

It's good to hear that the Americans are treating you well. What expectations do you have for next week?
ReplyDeleteHi Domenica,
ReplyDeleteIt's very interesting to know a little bit about some of the differences between your country and here. I agree with you that there are a lot of assignments but you will do fine. The academic skill center is a great place to get help with class assignments.
I don't have a problem with all the assignments; it's only the fact that this was something what me really surprised. Moreover I don't have any expectations for the next weeks, since I know that there will be many exams. Actually, I hope to find the time to visit Minneapolis, St. Paul and some other interesting places near Eau Claire.
